These are three areas where we feel particularly well able to assist groups interested in exploration or asset purchase. Experience base on them is summarised in John’s drop-down cv:
1. Northern and southern basins onshore UK.
In 14th UK onshore Round John consulted for a bid group which applied for two blocks in northern onshore UK. Independently Highland Geology also acquired seismic and wells under licence, and he mapped a large area of Wessex Basin onshore UK. This work ran over several years and resulted in significant prospect definition, it is presently being offered to Industry, it can be acquired directly from us or via the Hannon Westwood Group.
From 2002 onwards John consulted for the Directorate of Hydrocarbons, for which he wrote technical presentations on acreage offered NELPs 3,4. He has advised companies bidding in NELPs 5, 6 and 9. He has made around 15 visits to India, including a 6-month stay, and has travelled to Assam, Gujurat, Mizoram, Manipur and various other northern States looking at oil and gas potential.
India is a tough place to invest in, the basins are attractive but the environment for exploration is demanding to say the least. The rules are changing and some of the hurdles are being removed, but companies wanting to take an active role there need well-connected, experienced and reliable local advisors; a lot of patience; and a large slice of good humour. If this is your aim, we can introduce excellent people to help you.
3. Western Australia.
John has mapped the northern Perth Basin and some of the northern basins of WA, and successfully recommended drilling locations and blocks for acquisition. WA is a very good place to explore, with readily available data and excellent support from Government and contractors. Highly recommended, particularly as operating costs and prices of assets are falling now.
